Purple Loosestrife

September 22, 2008

This aggressive plant has been located along the shores of Oliver Lake, Martin Lake, and Olin Lake. It is an aggressive invader, negatively affecting wetlands and the wildlife that inhabits them. It can rapidly degrade the quality of wetlands and even affect farmer's crops on drier land.

Find out how you can prevent the spread of Purple Loosestrife by reading this informative brochure, created by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, that is available for download on the Documents page.

Canada Goose Roundup

June 28, 2008

86 geese were removed from the lakes. Four escaped into Martin and one in Oliver. The total cost for the effort was $1,696. Due to the generosity of many lake residents, only $186 of the money budgeted by the board had to be used. If you see the following folks around the lake say thanks for their volunteering work as goose herders. Meredith Cameron, Leon Detweiler, Jack Plyley, Bob Holbrook, Mark Giaquinta, Felix Lipsky, and Bill Bolin.
